IS THIS WHERE I CAN GO SEE THE SINGING DENTIST?
I am back from Los Angeles, which was ON FIRE and HOT (er ... literally, and neither in a good way), although I did get to play with two fantastic local musicians, Hamilton Price (bass) and Joe LaBarbera (Bill Evan's final drummer) -- as well as Jason, of course -- and see my name in RED NEON LIGHTS (as illustrated ABOVE).
However, although it is beautiful INSIDE, the venue looks exactly like a dentist's office from the outside. So it wouldn't surprise me at all to find that many Los Angeleans think I am a famous dentist or perhaps a plastic surgeon (they have lots of those there, though perhaps not singing ones).
It was not a sold-out performance. Then again, a singing dentist? A warbling plastic surgeon? People blamed the fires (which you could see burning in the distance), the air (super muggy) and the heat (insane -- in all my years of going there, it has never been so hot). On the good side, however, driving was easy peasy, due to there being hardly any traffic on the road.
And the music was ...cathartic. And I got some new names for the mailing list. And some people came from Japan and informed me that I am "big in Japan" because of my CD, Nights in Key Largo. And Hajime Sato from Eastwind Import even turned up with a VINYL copy of that album for me to sign! If you are an audiophile and like the idea of having your own vinyl copy of my CD -- among many others to choose from, check out www.eastwindimport.com
And I got a lovely live review from Don Heckman in the International Review of Music, which is here:
But I missed you all and I can't wait to see you! And this Friday (September 11), I will be back at the 55 Bar with Jason and Victor and some new songs and I would love to see you there!
